Erin Barry, MA, LCPC, PMH-C

(she/her pronouns) Making the decision to begin therapy can feel scary, but it is the first step towards healing in your life. I work as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with a master’s degree in Marriage, Couples and Family Counseling from Governors State University. I am most comfortable working with clients in the perinatal time period (pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and postpartum). I am a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Counselor through Postpartum Support International. Becoming a parent is the biggest transition in our adult lives and sometimes its not at all what we expected. Therapy is a great way to navigate these major identify shifts for individuals and couples.

I take a person-centered approach with therapy, following the belief that you are the true expert on your life. As a therapist, I aim to create a non-judgmental space where clients feel safe to really connect with their true self. Each client has a different set of experiences that have shaped who they are. My goal is to help clients get to a place where they can gain self-awareness and resiliency. My passion is to help people live their lives as their authentic selves which means being the person, parent and partner they wish to be.

I have additional training working with couples and frequently draw upon Gottman Couples Therapy in my work. Helping partners discover their inner resources, manage difficult emotions and combine their strengths is crucial in building a successful relationship. I assist couples interested in exploring, understanding and challenging their harmful relational patterns.

I have advanced training in postpartum depression/anxiety, miscarriage, stillbirth, infertility, secondary infertility and parenting adjustment issues. I’m certified in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International. I also hold a Gottman Couples Therapy Level One Certification. Modalities of treatment include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment Focused Therapy, Mindfulness Based Therapy and Gottman Couples Therapy.

I see clients out of our Lagrange office and I can be reached at Erinb@beginwithinchicago.com or 312-529-8131.
