PlayStation’s first Remote Play dedicated device, PlayStation Portal remote player, to launch starting Nov 15 at $199.99

Since launching PS5, we’ve been amazed to see how players around the world have embraced the generational leaps we made in the gaming experience, such as the heightened feeling of immersion delivered by the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in the DualSense wireless controller. Our PlayStation community continues to give us a reason to challenge ourselves to bring new innovations to the market for all players to enjoy. That’s why today, we are especially pleased to share new updates about our upcoming hardware products.

In May, we gave a quick peek at our dedicated PS5 remote play device – now called PlayStation Portal remote player, and our first wireless earbuds, called Pulse Explore. Today we’re pleased to share more details about these products and reveal a new PlayStation over-the-ear wireless headset, Pulse Elite. Both Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore deliver low latency lossless audio from PS5 and PlayStation Portal using our new PlayStation Link wireless technology.

Here are the details.

PlayStation Portal remote player

PlayStation Portal remote player brings the PS5 experience to the palm of your hand. It includes the key features of the DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback*. The vibrant 8-inch LCD screen is capable of 1080p resolution at 60fps, providing a high definition visual experience that’s expected from the high quality games created by world-class developers.

PlayStation Portal is the perfect device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play PS5 games in another room of the house. PlayStation Portal will connect remotely to your PS5 over Wi-Fi**, so you’ll be able to swiftly jump from playing on your PS5 to your PlayStation Portal. PlayStation Portal can play supported games that are installed on your PS5 console and use the Dualsense controller. It also includes a 3.5mm audio jack for wired audio. PS VR2 games, which require the headset, and games that are streamed through PlayStation Plus Premium’s cloud streaming, are not supported.***

PlayStation Portal remote player will launch later this year for 199.99 USD | 219.99 EURO | 199.99 GBP | 29,980 YEN. We’ll have more details soon on when pre-orders begin for PlayStation Portal.

Pulse Elite wireless headset & Pulse Explore wireless earbuds

Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore are the latest PlayStation wireless headset and earbuds, bringing next level audio performance to the gaming experience.

  • Pulse Elite is our new wireless headset that offers lossless audio and includes a retractable boom mic with AI-enhanced noise rejection capable of filtering background sounds. A charging hanger is also included with the product for a convenient charging and storage option.
  • Pulse Explore is our first set of wireless earbuds, providing a premium portable audio experience that includes dual microphones with AI-enhanced noise rejection capable of filtering background sounds. It also offers lossless audio and comes with a charging case.

Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore will be the first PlayStation audio devices to use custom-designed  planar magnetic drivers for an audiophile-level listening experience normally found in premium headphones for professional sound engineers. With Pulse Explore, we’re pleased to be one of the first companies to provide wireless earbuds to the mass consumer market using planar magnetic driver technology.

Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore are part of our ongoing efforts to amplify the audio experience in gaming and make the gameplay experience more immersive through enhanced sound. Pulse Elite will be available for 149.99 USD | 149.99 EURO | 129.99 GBP | 18,980 YEN and Pulse Explore will be available for 199.99 USD | 219.99 EURO | 199.99 GBP | 29,980 YEN. We’ll have more details to share soon, including when pre-orders begin and launch dates.

PlayStation Link, PlayStation’s new wireless audio technology

Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore connect directly with PlayStation Portal by leveraging this new wireless audio technology, PlayStation Link. This innovation delivers low latency, lossless audio and easy switching between multiple PlayStation Link hosts such as PS5 with the USB adapter and PlayStation Portal.

When using Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore with PS5, the USB adapter that’s included with each headset and earbuds is required for PlayStation Link. The PlayStation Link USB adapter will also be sold separately as a standalone item, and can be used on PC and Mac, so players can connect Pulse Elite or Pulse Explore to experience the same lossless and low latency audio.

Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore can simultaneously connect to a PlayStation Link supported device (PS5, PC, Mac, or PlayStation Portal) and a Bluetooth supported device. For example, Pulse Explore can be connected to PS5 (via the USB adapter) using PlayStation Link and also to a mobile phone through Bluetooth at the same time. While playing on PS5, gamers can instantly answer a call and hear it through the same Pulse Explore earbuds.

We can’t wait to launch our new line of products for PS5, so players can play longer and  experience its heightened immersiveness. We want to thank all our fans for being part of the PlayStation family and for embracing PS5, and we look forward to continuing to come up with new ways to enhance the player experience.

*Haptic feedback and adaptive trigger features are only available when those features are supported by the game being played.

**Requires broadband internet Wi-Fi with at least 5Mbps for use. For a better play experience, a high-speed connection of at least 15Mbps is recommended.

***Games that require a VR headset (PlayStation VR or PlayStation VR2) or additional peripherals (other than a DUALSHOCK 4, DualSense, or DualSense Edge wireless controller) are not compatible. Games that must be streamed on PS5 using a PS Plus Premium membership are not compatible.

  • Isn’t the playstation portal just an expensive ps remote play? I Mean I can take my phone down stairs with a controller and do the exact same thing??

  • Why not use THAT PlayStation Link technology to connect PlayStation 5 and this PlayStation Portal instead of WiFi? What if the WiFi signal is not strong in another room?

  • Can’t wait I will hopefully get the new head phones and controller soon when it comes out

  • “Pulse Elite will be available for 149.99 USD | 149.99 EURO | 129.99 GBP | 18,980 YEN and Pulse Explore will be available for 199.99 USD | 219.99 EURO | 199.99 GBP | 29,980 YEN.”

those better be some incredibly high quality headphones/ear buds for those prices cause i know you can get some decent ones on amazon for under $40.

and that you’re specifically requiring THE most expensive version of your headset and ear buds is just greedy, sony.

  • As a blind gamer, I hope there will be a screenreader on the Portal as well, so I can connect the device to wifi without needing help, and then connect to my ps5, which hopefully will stream the screenreader from the ps5 to the Portal as well. I can’t wait to get this amazing device…

  • Yes I could give this PORTAL a go just to see how it stands up to the STEAM 🧐, having said that at £ 199.99 English pounds compared to the STEAM price at around £660+, the PORTAL does seem to be a bargain but then again we shall have to wait and see if the PORTAL stands up to the hype that’s so graciously been bestowed upon it by the PLAYSTATION fraternity 💖. Also please feel free to let me try one out for free so I can give it my unbiased opinion 👏. Sending love and best wishes on one of your latest products 🌹. 👍😎👍

  • So I already bought a laptop to remote my ps4 but I probably would have gotten this. Big problem for me is it needs wifi. I don’t think the battery will be good but don’t know. It looks really cheap and low physical quality (opinion) and I just would have loved to buy a ps4 portable that just has all my games on it. Cool device but I’ll pass

    • Also from reading it looks like the portal can connect to ps4 but I’m not sure. Can anyone tell me please ? Thanks

  • Well i was expecting more but i get it i mean after dropping $100 on the backbone now this comes out well smack to the face 😂 nah jk but i did expect to see an OLED display not LCD so that kinda sucks.

  • I can see why Sony created this “peripheral” as an add-on to the PS5 rather than creating a device like the Switch or Steam Deck. if they created something similar, it would have to be a total PS5 replacement and there would be no point in a home console and may as well get rid of physical disc as well and do only digital or (go back to tiny cartridges)
They don’t want to replace the PS5, they want to continue to support it and give players a way to use their ps5 while moving around the house or going to another location with wifi.
Definitely not for everyone, but i get it the idea.
Maybe one day the home consoles will go away and all three companies will all do portables, but that would be crazy and another story lol

  • I’m glad they made in-ear headphones! My pulse headset leather is wearing away now so I’ll probably never get anymore headphones if they keep making them this way.

I think the price is a bit too much though 200 for earbuds & 200 for a streaming device is insane!
That’s 400 quid I’m not willing to give you sorry. Earbuds should of been 100quid & the streaming device 150 at maximum! I think playstation is being greedy now!

  • You had me at split DualSense instead of having to use touchscreen controls for Remote Play and the earbuds, so i don’t always have to use headphones.
Maybe even upgrade my Pulse headset to an Elite…

  • Sony would have hit a home run if the portal could store ps5 games, love the new headset

  • Count me in, this looks fantastic. Very expensive just getting the console by itself. Waiting for a new Ps Vita or similar now this is made, sweet!

  • This is my Player2 account. Wish I had doe for the package, home console and remote play. Just a bit expensive compared with PS4 and Vita stuff. Gotta stock-up on them first.

  • It’s surprising to see a lot of players with a negative review! It’s technically an accessory for PS5, you actually need to own a PS5. It’s either you want it or not! It’s not a proper handheld game and hopefully Sony may still decide to work on that!

  • Je to hlúposť prečo hrať doma na malej obrazovke??ak by to bolo že napr v práci ok mám telefón na Tom môžem hrať a pripojiť aj ps5 ovládač prečo by som si to kupoval za 200 ??? Neexistuje

  • Honestly just wondering, if one also has the Dual Sense Edge Controller [The modular one], if those components are compatible with the Viewscreen component of the Portal [Portable Unit]? Or how much, replacing perhaps just the gymbal sticks would cost, if you will be able to purchase separate? I know from experience, that, some controller sticks can get pretty damaged/chewed-up/suffer major “wear and tear,” over time.

  • Might get some sales but doubtful it’ll generate more revenue than expense. Probably a poor business decision but we’ll see.

  • Every decision you have made in life has lead you to read this comment

  • Yea there are limitations, but speaking as a father of 5 kids, even I have limited playtime. This is perfect for me to enjoy while putting my 6 month old and 2 year old to sleep. The price point is better than expected. $199 is very welcome as I expected it to be $299-$349.

Also who’s to say that things won’t improve with future updates. PlayStation streaming is in its infancy still. Xbox live service/streaming didn’t happen overnight people.

  • why not bluetooth I JUST BOUGHT NEW HEADPHONES

  • I think this is going to be a train wreck but ima pick one up anyway to see the train wreck closer.

(But for real I bet a dozen people are gonna return this in DAYS)

  • I can see the utility in the PlayStation Portable, but I’m concerned about battery life. The DualSense controllers don’t have a good track record with their longevity, and this is basically those controllers with an attached monitor. I need to hear more before I put down $200.

  • Does it have any inside built speaker?

  • I really don’t understand the point of this. I could use a backbone controller and my phone with 1080p with remote play to play off my ps4 + ps5 in my house or out my house for $100 or I could spend $200 for a device that can’t even leave the house and only streams off my ps5 with only 720p. I don’t get the point of this so if anyone could help me understand why this would be a good purchase, please do so

  • It is an alternative when you cannot play on the console, but to say that it is an alternative when you do not have an extra screen, I better buy another screen for the other room. I would buy this item if it connected directly to streaming games, that is if I would consider buying the hardware and instead of an Extra membership buy a Premium one

  • If it could connect directly to streaming games with any internet connection, would I consider buying it and upgrading my membership from extra to premium?

  • PlayStation please stop announcing stuff without a release date

  • Finally i can watch football games from the comfort of my couch and “pause & play” at the same time.

  • Wow ,how incredible it all seems !!!

  • We did it guys! We’re getting exactly what we wanted!!

  • Will there be an edge type version eventually? It would be prohibitively expensive to buy a new ps portal every 3 – 6 months for stick drift.

  • Can I really not use my Pulse Headset or my Sony headphones? This is probably going to be a dealbreaker for me for a device I was definitely going to purchase.

  • Do you need to be at home to use the device?
Can I take it with me to my work and use it there? While my ps5 is at home?

  • Bring MLB The Show to PC, please… :)

  • I’m definitely getting and the headphones

  • I have been waiting since ps5s launch for a wireless ear bud made specifically for gaming. Not to say music and movies will not sound amazing. Yet here I wait…wait..and wait. I could care less about a hand held Device and knew from the start it was a waste of time. It was, facts are facts.
May I help? Get the earbuds out yesterday and start preorders for the upcoming ps5 PRO, that’s the market to hit. I plan on a 699.00 price, but it must be in black, not white. Redesign controller of Edge again in black or gun metal. Sony couldn’t make enough v.s demand.
As far as the hand held, leave that crap to Nintendo abd make the good stuff people want, not kids. Stop making them, they will not sell. You have enough.
Your welcome Sony, now deliver the goods before Microsoft or the like beats you to it.

  • I’m a 46 year old that lives with my mother, and I hog the living room TV playing PS5 and PS4 all the time. I explained exactly what this is to her, and she said, “oh my god, that’s perfect. I’m buying you that for Christmas.”

I’m sure there are other mother’s who have said the same thing. Down for one. Hopefully it will be out by Christmas!!

  • Update: Just left the last comment, but have since read some posts on the headset/buds requirement. Although I will pay, the fact you can’t use the original pulse (or anything else) is pretty lame.

My Pulse is less than 2 years old, and the black latex like material is coming off the cups. I do get heavy use out of them, but take the utmost care of my gaming gear, so it’s definitely not from neglect. They still sound great, but pretty bummed they are falling apart.

On top of that, two of my 4 controllers have had drift. I sent my red one back while paying $15 shipping, and they sent me a refurbished one that has a wacky touchpad with most games. The other one that drifts is outside of warranty so no luck on that one.

I’m a diehard Playstation gamer from the start, but the accessory quality is definitely going downhill and getting more expensive. OHHH, and having to pay for the USB dongle thing is ridiculous.

So $200 Portal + $150 headphones + $20 (for USB dongle IF lucky). = $370. I’ll pay it cause I have it, but this ala carte bs is for the birds.

  • Sorry but this is quite simply not good enough. Remote play means “remote” play that means outside the house abroad etc not having to stay in the same house to do something that you can probably do anyway , It’s time to move fwd. And then saying 1080p ? Are you joking lol ? That’s possibly over 10 years old technology ? Remote play should be accessible on any internet connection anywhere in the world and in a site more than 1080…….sorry yes it looks fun but doesn’t hit the spot as to what remote play exactly means

  • PlayStation Portal – ridiculous price for what it offers

  • Remote play is awful on local, unidentifiable – just check popular social networks. How on earth is a £200 device going to do what a £70 dual shock and £3000 computer can’t do properly. Perhaps Sony has spent so much time trying to tweak for out of house streaming that local connection has suffered but I can attest that a) it stinks 2 feet away one a perfect ax network with 1200mbs connections b) it was better on ps4 with direct connect which was inexplicably removed c) even when half is wired most games remain unplayable.

Good luck, it’s a major letdown this was what Sony arrived at, and when it’s in hands it will be an even bigger letdown – even for those of us who aren’t looking for perfect, just playable.

  • 🙏🏾 Thank you PlayStation for lookin out with the hand held 200 dollar get down,, I’m definitely getting it asap!!

  • I respect everyone opinion but this
PlayStation Portal will be really handy for me since I don’t like the TV in my room and so my ps5 is in the living room and I got a brother and a mother that I live with, and they like to use the TV as well. All I can do just turn on PSP while they watching TV and also the price is not bad. Definitely going to be real alert for the preorder.

  • I was real excited for this until the details came out. We want something that we can take our games on the road or play them while we wait for something. This is 100% wifi dependent and you can’t play the psplus/cloud (upcoming) games. Make an online (with wifi) PSP. Something we can link our offline and online games to and play on or offline. That’s what we want. Like a switch but for playstation

  • I just wonder because New Playstation Portal ” Project Q” will it be available for us “Me” with a PS5 and an Playstation account be able to order this and have it mail or pick up at near by store? Because the handheld is on my wishlist and I must have and I don’t want to wait forever like I did for my PS5???

  • What is PlayStation link? Is it a new app

  • I want the earbuds. Bad. And thank you Sony for continuing to innovate.

  • For everyone upset this is not the next PS Vita, how many of you would actually buy a PS Vita 2 rather than a Steam Deck, ROG Ally, or the rumored upcoming Switch 2?

This is an PS5 accessory. Granted one that will appeal to a very small audience but what’s wrong with that? The Dual Sense Edge is another $200 accessory with a small audience but I’m sure those people are happy it exists; even if it’s not for everyone. And this goes without saying but, the Portal is not for everyone.

  • OMG just announce the ps5 pro already these little add ons have already been made by much better companies. Gimme games and gimme the pro. I know im demanding but….gimme
