THE PEARL OF THE CARIBBEAN, AN ISLAND FULL OF EXPERIENCES

Known as “The Pearl of the Caribbean,” Margarita Island, from the Greek pearl, was discovered by Christopher Columbus on his third voyage in 1498. He called it Margarita because the Guaiqueríes Indians who inhabited the island, cultivated pearls along with oysters.

In Margarita you can visit the Basilica of Our Lady of the Valley, Laguna La Restinga, Playa el Yaque (windsurfing), Playa El Agua, Fortín de La Galera and Punta Ballenas Lighthouse known for being a place for whale sightseeing and Pampatar, among many other places. You can practice scuba diving, windsurf and golf.

From Playa El Yaque boats depart every day to Isla de Coche, a paradise of sand, sea and parties.

Its cuisine is based on seafood products, with empanada de cazon (baby shark patties), pastel de chucho (sea ray pie) , fried fish and sweet papaya dessert as its most representative.
