In addition to five bedrooms and 10 baths — six full and four half — the two-story brick house features an elevator, in-ground pool, six garage bays, a finished basement and a carriage guest house.

One of Nashville's most well-known entrepreneurs is selling his 59-acre Belle Meade estate.

The two-story, 19,811-square-foot home — located at 1304 Chickering Road — was posted for sale this week at a price tag of $50 million.

Built in 2001, the estate is currently owned by HCA Healthcare Inc. co-founder Tommy Frist Jr. and his late wife Patricia, according to Davidson County property records. Patricia Frist died in January 2021.

Records show the Frists bought the property in 1993 for $2.2 million.

Frist is Nashville’s most successful entrepreneur, co-founding HCA in 1968 — alongside his father Thomas Frist Sr. and prolific businessman Jack Massey — and is credited for launching the city’s massive health care industry. HCA (NYSE: HCA) has grown into Middle Tennessee’s largest publicly-traded company, according to Nashville Business Journal research, with nearly 11,000 local employees and $58.75 billion of revenue in 2021.

In addition to five bedrooms and 10 baths — six full and four half — the brick house features an elevator, in-ground pool, six garage bays, a finished basement and a carriage guest house, according to the listing.

The home was designed by New York architects Ferguson & Shamamian and is featured in their book "City & County Residences."  The listing quotes from the book, which describes the house as, "Centered on colonnaded porches in front and back, the house may have an impressive presence, and the body language appears to be formal. But the house that is scaled for entertaining and steeped in regional references offers a surprisingly comfortable, even relaxed environmental reality inside. The house that commands the landscape actually invites the outside in, easing the formality with a porous indoor-outdoor attitude.”

If the property sells for $50 million, it would be one of the largest residential real estate deals in Middle Tennessee history. The most expensive home sold in 2021 was $19 million for a property at 1710 Talbot Trail in Franklin, according to Nashville Business Journal research.

The Frist property listing comes days after Frist purchased more than 89,000 shares of HCA stock, worth more than $20.2 million, as of Friday morning. Frist bought the shares May 2, at prices ranging from $209.72 per share to $215.29 per share, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

Share of HCA were trading at $226.97 per share, as of Friday morning.
