Review: Palacio de Cibeles
Photos
Tell me: What’s this place all about?
You'll find Palacio de Cibeles at one of the city's most important intersections along the famous Paseo del Arte. The building, today the seat of Madrid City Council, was once the city's Telecommunications Palace, housing the Spain's post office headquarters. Inside is a newly opened cultural center with regular concerts and rotating exhibits. Entrance is free, although some events require tickets.
Anything we must do?
Be sure to climb to the rooftop terrace, which has exceptional views.
Who comes here?
The building bustles with activity: locals stopping in at one of two restaurants, tourists using the free Wi-Fi while people watching.
So then what, or who, do you think it’s best for?
Don't make a beeline for the cultural center unless you've exhausted the main sites in town. At the very least, though, do walk past this grand structure to admire it from afar, especially when the fountains in front are doing their thing.
