The name of Guamá comes from the last Taino leader who fought against the Spaniards in 1532 in the province of Camagüey, and that is why it has been called the point where one must leave for the Taino village. In Boca de Guamá you must take a boat that through the waters of the Laguna del Tesoro will lead you to the village in the heart of the natural park. During the trip you will travel through the vegetative landscape that rises imperturbable and majestic around the channels and surely you will be able to appreciate some of the many species that live there.

The Aldea de Guamá (Village of Guamá) consists of a group of aboriginal constructions and a total of 32 figures created by the sculptor Rita Longa. They represent Taino Indians performing rites and tasks in the village. In this area, it is common to see depictions of Taino ceremonies with actors dressed as natives dancing and singing to the rhythm of the indigenous sounds.

Although without a doubt, the Crocodile Farm is one of the biggest attractions you will find. It has more than 10,000 specimens of all sizes and ages that they protect.

Due to its position it can be a good stop when travelling from Havana, which is about 150 km away, to other cities such as Trinidad or the famous Parque Nacional Topes de Collantes (Topes de Collantes National Park).

Where to stay in Boca de Guamá, Cuba?

The Hotel Guamá, also located in the same lagoon, is a wonderful place to spend a few days surrounded by this natural landscape. Wooden cabins and thatched roofs rise above the surface of the water and are connected to each other through the walkways that go from island to island. This is an exotic, paradisiacal and original type of accommodation, the kind that appears on dream postcards. In addition, you can rent a boat and cruise the waters of this lagoon enjoying the peace that provides the rocking of the boat with the distant croaking of the birds that fly over the swamp.
